Happy New Year!

Wishing you and your family a Happy New Year!

“And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.”  ~Abraham Lincoln

Goal Setting Part I

Well, we are coming close to the last day of the year! I plan to share a few tips on goal setting here so that it’s not just going to be another wish list for year 2010. I want all of you to achieve all your goals for year 2010.

Don’t just think it, ink it. Unless you write them down, goals are often lost in the shuffle and excitement of new problems and challenges. Do also place them in a prominent place so that you could view them everyday and you will reminded of your goals.

Going For The Win!

“Whenever there is rain, there is sunshine.” Mario Andretti doesn’t dwell on negatives but doesn’t take anything for granted, either. “Nothing worthwhile will come to you without a price,” he says.

Out of Action

Sorry folks I’m out of action for some time as not feeling well. Went to see doctor twice but condition not improving so end up deciding to pay a visit to the hospital.

Merry Christmas!

Wishing you & your family a Merry Christmas! Have lots of fun & joy during this festive season!

With best wishes,
Ray Teong.

Ross Perot

Most people give up just when they’re about to achieve success. They quit on the one yard line. They give up at the last minute of the game one foot from a winning touchdown.

My Christmas Wish…

My Christmas wish is to be able to continue to add value to other people’s lives. On top of that, I also hope to seek continuous self development and being able to spend more time with my loved ones. As you can see sometimes wishes could be simple and nothing materialistic as long as one is happy and being able to share the joy with others it’s worth more than anything else.

Muhammad Ali

I hated every minute of training, but I said, “Don’t quit. suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.”

Barack Obama

Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.

Caffeine Nation?

I know many people like their daily cup of coffee or tea. It’s fine to have them as long as it doesn’t turn into an addiction. At times people also depend on coffee or tea to keep them awake. If possible it’s still best to have sufficient rest and not depend on the caffeine in coffee or tea to keep you awake. Instead take more water, fruits and vegetables, they are good for your health too.

Dale Carnegie

Develop success from failures. Discouragement and failure are two of the surest stepping stones to success.

Other People’s Opinions

Quit worrying about trying to please everyone. As Bill Cosby says, “I don’t know the key to success, but I know the key to failure is trying to please everyone.”

Tony Hsieh

Want some inspirations on youth entrepreneur? Read more about Tony Hsieh.

He made $850 million in July when he sold Zappos to Amazon.com. He reportedly made $214 million in the deal himself. Zappos sales hit $1 billion in 2008, a mere nine years after its 1999 launch.

Hsieh made his first $1 million by age 18. His business career started with him selling pizzas out of his dorm room. When he was 24 he sold LinkExchange an advertising network to Microsoft for $265 million.

Jim Rohn Video

Saw this simple, profound video containing invaluable messages where Mr Jim Rohn was sharing his knowledge during one of his seminars. So I thought of sharing it with you all.

Say “YES”!

In this coming new year, we want to increase our possibilities, options and opportunities. When we say “no” to a social or community project, school work, invitation or event etc, we are also saying “no” to the serendipitous benefits that arise.

Rather than waiting for these events to present themselves, start today by actively seeking opportunities to meet people, gather new ideas, learn more about your interest and just connect and share.

Self Improvement Books

There are so many self improvement/ personal development/ self-help books these days. At times people wonder which are the best.

One could not possibly read through all of them. And let me share with you this tip, there’s no need to read all of THEM! Reading a hundred or a thousand of these books wouldn’t improve your life. But if you learn and apply the knowledge even from 1-2 books, you will see and experience the result. So it’s about taking actions and not about how much you know.

Remember, knowledge is only potential power.

Jim Rohn

The legendary business philosopher and personal development mentor Mr Jim Rohn has passed away on Dec 5 2009.

We have lost one of the greatest mentor of our time. He has touched the lives of millions of people and there are many valuable lessons one could learn from this great guy.

We know Mr Rohn is looking down on us at this very moment with a smile saying I did it, I gave it my all, I went for it, now it’s your turn. Go for it. Make your life a life worth living well!

Victory

“He who gains a victory over other men is strong; but he who gains a victory over himself is all powerful.” ~Lao Tzu

Christmas Gift

It’s the time of the year, time to give and share and celebrate! Yes, Christmas is round the corner.

If you are thinking what gift you want or what to get for yourself, why not get something that will improve or enhance your life. We tend to get things we like but are they really useful and will they improve our life?

Why not invest in yourself, enrol for a course to improve your knowledge, or get some good solid books on personal development etc. You will pick up invaluable lessons and if you put these knowledge into pratice, they will certainly make an impact in your life.

Strength

“Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.” ~Mahatma Gandhi

What’s Your Plan?

You see there are so many things happening around us everyday and most likely than not all have a plan. Example, projects need a plan, sending man to the moon also needs a plan, building the largest passenger plane to-date the A380 also needs a plan. But what about our own life? Do you have a plan for it? It’s time to think about it so that you know where you are heading.

The Last Lecture

For those in need of some inspiration, you may want to consider reading ‘The Last Lecture’ by Randy Pausch. It’s pretty sad that he has since passed away but he left a very good and touching message. You can also Google and you may just find his last lecture in Youtube etc.

What’s In Your MP3 Player or iPhone?

I guess many would say of course music and videos! Why not search around and load some solid personal development stuff or even audio books into your MP3 players or iPhone. You can listen to them when you are commuting or during your free time.

It will boost your learning and enhance your personal development. I’m not asking you to give up your entire music collection, just for a change you can spend some time on upgrading yourself too.

Multitasking Flaw

A lot of people thought multitasking is the way for ‘survivor’ in the new economy. However, a Michigan researcher’s findings show that one loses at least 0.7 second every time when switching between tasks and the lost time adds up and your likelihood of errors increases by 50 percent.

The best way to increase productivity be it in studies or at work is to create blocks of time and assign each time period a specific task. One just focus on what needs to be done, no emails, no phone calls etc. In this way, you would not be pushing your brain to operate in an interrupted fashion and it also helps reduce stress.

So who says multitasking is good???

Tiger Woods

“You can always become better!” ~Tiger Woods

I pretty like this simple quote. It reminds one that no matter where you are right now you can always be better and don’t be complacent. If you are at rock bottom in class, aim to pass all your exams. If you are already passing your exams, aim to do better and get good grades. If you are already excellent, aim to be outstanding!

Study Forums?

Hi, need a favor from all of you. Does anyone knows of any study forums or bulletin boards where people share study tips, techniques, strategies etc? Do feel free to share as I would love to take a look and I believe I could contribute, learn and share with more people too. You can leave the details in the comments below. Alternatively you may email me at, uradian [at] gmail [dot] com

Thank you.

Yes! I Want More Free Time

Let’s be frank. During my schooling days, I don’t like to study too. I find it boring, a chore to do all my homework. On the other hand, I enjoy playing a lot!

And that’s why I believe one must study more effectively in order to have more free time to do what one likes to do. I think you would agree with me at times burning 16 hours straight on revision doesn’t mean you understand everything. In the worst case scenario, your mind could be totally blank.

There’s a certain way to approach studying, taking exams and getting good grades and it’s definitely not by depending on luck or burying yourself in tonnes of books.

To summarize, study effectively =more FREE time! = that’s the way I like it!

How We Could Better Spend Our Time

So here’s an example how we could better spend our time:

Commuting to school or work (to and froth) = listen or watch videos on your mp3 player or mobile phone. Subjects could be on self improvement, personal development or things related to what you want to achieve.

Watching TV or channel ‘surfing’ = spend time instead on activities that could bring you closer to your goals like doing reading, revision, do planning, brain storm, write your business plan etc. If you really want to watch some TV keep it to an hour and not glued yourself in front of the TV screen.

Checking emails, surfing Internet = personal emails aren’t usually that urgent, you can check once a week and not everyday instead spend time on activities that could bring you closer to your goals. *Take note surfing Internet and checking emails etc are highly addictive.

Telephone conversation, text messaging = same as above

Reading story books or fashion magazines = since you are feeding your brain might as well feed it with quality stuff like subjects on self improvement, personal development or things related to what you want to achieve.

Cheers!
